Government has assured that patients shall be provided with only safe medicine for treatment following messages on social media that expired drugs were being distributed.

In a press release, Secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Ndabaningi Mangwana said, Government is aware of messages on social media purporting to show that expired medical drugs are being dispensed for use by patients in the country.

“Government has been made aware of footage on social media purporting to show that expired medical drugs are being dispensed for use by patients in the country.

“Government wishes to assure the Zimbabwean public that it takes the safety of its citizens and patients seriously and there are systems in place to ensure that expired medication is safely disposed of and not used irregularly,” said Mangwana.

Mangwana also said that expired medicines are not for use by patients.

“We place on record and emphasise that expired medication is not for use by patients. Should anybody suspect that they have been issued with medication of questionable quality they should contact the regulator, Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe,” he also said.
