Chamisa address hollow, full of empty rhetoric:MDC-T

Senator Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC-T has dismissed and described MDC-Alliance’s Zimbabwe 2021 Agenda as hollow and full of empty rhetoric.

The much publicised Chamisa`s address failed to acknowledge positive developments by the Government and only focused on attacking the ruling party Zanu-PF and other opposition political parties.

In a press statement posted on the party`s Twitter handle, MDC-T Secretary for Information and Publicity, Witness Dube also castigated Chamisa for failing to unite the people of Zimbabwe and those in his  party.

“The MDC-T notes with concern the statement uttered by Chamisa in his agenda 2021 virtual address yesterday 09 March 2021. Although as we expected, the statement was hollow and full of empty rhetoric, it is the toxicity and the utter divisiveness of the statement that must not go unchallenged.

“He was so condescending towards other political parties arrogantly referring to them as little boys and girls and describing them as surrogates of Zanu-PF. This is so unhelpful and tragic as it has become the hallmark of political approach of Mr Chamisa and his grouping. Mr Chamisa wants to label anyone who disagrees with him as Zanu-PF. Yet it is his political outfit that has more Zanu-PF members outside Zanu-PF itself,” reads part of the statement.

The MDC-T says it was a matter of historical record that Chamisa has within his rank officials who at the behest of Zanu-PF split the opposition at a very crucial moment thus denying it electoral victory. The MDC-T highlighted that there were people within MDC-Alliance who have had business dealings with Zanu-PF including the late former President Robert Mugabe’s Gushungo Dairy (referring to Chamisa) and that more recently a lot of MDC-Alliance officials defected to Zanu-PF.

“In his address, Mr Chamisa literary said nothing about uniting Zimbabweans across the political and regional divide. This is not surprising given the fact that as Mr Chamisa was giving his speech, his deputy president Tendai Biti was busy abusing the people of Chipinge in Manicaland. His erstwhile colleague Pedzisayi Ruhanya has been tribally abusing political opponents from Manicaland on Twitter with reckless abandon. Not Surprisingly, Mr Chamisa has not found it necessary to censure his wayward official,” reads the statement.

The MDC-T accuses Chamisa of wanting to blame people for the consequences of his unconstitutional actions when he tried to usurp power following the death of Dr Morgan Tsvangirai.

“He ought to have known that it would one day catch up with him. The whole of last year Mr Chamisa brought dead case after dead case against the MDC-T. This includes the case relating to the possession of the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House (MRTH). He wants to explain away his losses by alleging the hand of Zanu-PF. That Mr Chamisa has a great handicap when it comes to matters of political strategy is there for all to see,” reads the statement.

Dube says what is worrisome is that while Mr Chamisa decries the “de-facto one party state” that Zanu PF allegedly wants to bring, he nevertheless wants to create a “one party state” within the opposition. Dube revealed that MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora has recently stated that it was time to jettison the politics of rancour, hate, acrimony, violence and intolerance and substitute same with the politics of rational disputation and tolerance.

“What has since become clear is that Mr Chamisa cannot unite the people of Zimbabwe as much as he cannot unite his own party,” reads the statement.

Meanwhile political analysts described Chamisa’s address as a useless speech filled with hatred, a speech which failed to acknowledge some positive developments which are happening in the country.

“Its unfortunate that, as usual, Chamisa had nothing new to offer to the people of Zimbabwe except his old chorus of attacking the Government and other political parties. He failed to acknowledge even a single developmental project which the Government has done.

The Government is doing justice to rehabilitation of roads countrywide, the agricultural sector has improved and farmers are expecting good harvest which is a positive in terms of food security. The Government has also managed to arrest the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic through implementation of various measures. The Government is also fighting corruption and results are there to show. So Chamisa failed to talk about all those positives and only focused on attacks, it’s a shame,” said political analyst Tafadzwa Muchena.
