Chamisa plots to decimate MDC-T

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has devised a grand plan to decimate the rival MDC-T ahead of the harmonised general elections slated for next year.

A source who spoke to this publication said the survival of the MDC-T as a political party is hanging by a thread after Chamisa dangled a lucrative offer to MDC-T members to jump ship and join the CCC.

“Chamisa has devised a grand plan to destroy the MDC-T for good. He is targeting to recruit influential members of the MDC-T so that they dump the Douglas Mwonzora-led party. Currently, they have recruited MDC-T’s Harare provincial chairperson, Zivanai Mhetu and Harare Provincial Secretary for Information and Publicity, Fungai Chiposi,” said the source.

The source said that soon after the by-elections, Mhetu was approached by a delegation send by Chamisa and was promised an influential position in the CCC if he dumps Mwonzora.

“Currently, the CCC has no substantive structures, so Mhetu was approached by CCC members send by Chamisa so that he could dump the MDC-T and join CCC. He was promised an influential position and some monetary rewards if he publicly denounces Mwonzora and the MDC-T,” said the source.

The source said that Chamisa’s people told both Mhetu and Chiposi that their embarrassing defeats in the just ended by-elections was not because they were weak candidates, but because Mwonzora’s unelectable stature haunted them also.

According to the source Mhetu and Chiposi told Chamisa’s emissaries that they were the powers behind Mwonzora and the MDC-T would not survive after their departure.

The same source said that Mwonzora got wind of Chamisa’s machinations of destroying the MDC-T and had since directed that party’s security to deny Mhetu and Chiposi access to the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House.

Efforts to get a comment from both Mhetu and Chiposi were futile as their mobile phones were not reachable.
