There is massive disgruntlement among some Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators who are accusing their party leader, Nelson Chamisa of forcing them to donate fuel coupons towards that party’s programmes.
A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa instructed CCC secretary to the organising department, Farai Chinobva, to contact all legislators directing them to donate some of their parliamentary fuel coupons towards CCC mobilisation programmes.
“The legislators are not happy with the directive that they should donate fuel coupons to towards party programmes. These legislators are arguing that it should be the party that should financially support them instead of them sponsoring the party,” said the source.
The source added that the fuel coupons were for legislators to visit their constituencies and attend parliament sessions and not to sponsor CCC activities.
The source claimed that some legislators were lamenting that they used their personal resources to get into parliament and it was, therefore, unfair for the same party to demand fuel coupons from them.
According to the source, Chinobva has already reached out to Manicaland Province deputy organising secretary, Itayi Masaka telling him to work with Dangamvura-Chikanga legislator, Prosper Mutseyami in mobilising legislators in that province to donate towards CCC programmes.
The same source said that legislators who would refuse to part with their fuel coupons would not be endorsed as candidates by Chamisa for the forthcoming elections. The source added that the CCC organising department was further tasked by Chamisa to compile a list of all legislators who would have refused to donate the fuel coupons.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Chamisa has further demanded that CCC legislators should also donate twenty percent of their parliamentary allowances as that party’s coffers were in red. The source said that CCC controlled councils were also advised to use all possible avenues to mobilise financial resources for that party ahead of this year’s elections.
