CCC candidate selection process flawed

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members are describing the CCC candidate selection p

rocess as defective claiming that the process is proving to be an indirect way by Nelson Chamisa to impose his preferred candidates despite their background.

According to a source within CCC, some members from the MDC-T were nominated as candidates by Chamisa, directly undermining efforts that were made by CCC founding fathers who spearheaded the intensive mobilization and rebranding of that party into its current form.

The CCC member also alleged that Mwonzora was being sponsored by ZANU PF to give money to MDC-T members to infiltrate CCC.

“On 29 April 2023, Mwonzora was in Masvingo Province, where he was giving financial and moral support to his candidates who were nominated as CCC candidates,” said the source.

Source further highlighted that some of the CCC members were calling for a protest vote in Constituencies such as Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park, where CCC senior member, Thokozani Khupe, was nominated. Khupe is one of the candidates whom CCC members claim crossed over to CCC for benefits after being frustrated by Mwonzora.

CCC members are also alleging that Khupe is being used by ZANU-PF to enable ZANU-PF candidate, Professor Mthuli Ncube, to win that constituency.

The CCC candidate selection process was not only marred by violence and confusion but also that the CCC members are disgruntled over their leader’s choice of candidates.

Despite claims by CCC leadership that the process is democratic and bringing desired results, the source proved that the process was far from democratic and was a way for Chamisa to conscript his proxies into the party.
