In a shocking turn of events, Tony Jasi, the ZANU PF Chisheta Political District Chairperson, was reportedly attacked at his home in Muzarabani South by members of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), on Monday evening.

A source who spoke to the Harare Post said that the assailants were identified as CCC Chinyani Ward 1 candidate Honour Mpofu, Chomi Katambarare, Criswell Shambo and Never Chigayo.

"Four members from the CCC arrived at Jasi's residence in a Nissan Caravan bearing registration number 0129.  Suddenly, they began throwing stones at his house, shattering the windows in a violent act of vandalism,” said the source.

The source added that when Jasi emerged from his home to investigate the disturbance, the situation took a more sinister turn. The quartet allegedly assaulted Jasi with stones, leaving him nursing injuries to his face and hands.

"Jasi was targeted because of his alignment with the ZANU PF. The attackers accused him of siding with the ruling Party, while physically assaulting him," added the source.

According to the source, Jasi was subsequently treated for his injuries at St Albert’s Mission Hospital. He then filed a complaint at St Albert’s Police Station, with the case being recorded under OB 1454.

"The situation left the community shocked and concerned about the rising political tensions. Such an attack is unexpected in our typically peaceful area. We are deeply disturbed and anxious,” added the source.

In an additional remark, the source stated that the four CCC members suspected of the attack have reportedly gone missing from the area. Their current whereabouts remain unknown, and the Police are actively searching for them.

Meanwhile, six huts belonging to Zanu PF supporters in Shurugwi North were set alight in a politically motivated violence.  This attack was perpetrated by CCC members as a way of intimidating Zanu PF.   The Police continue with their investigations and search for the suspects.

Residents of Shurugwi North and Muzarabani South respectively are holding their breath, hoping for justice and a swift return to peace.
