The New Dispensation is ready to accept and take necessary steps from the recommendations of the established commissions, a senior Government official has revealed.

Speaking today at the launch of the five year National Peace and Strategy document at a local hotel in Harare today, Vice President, Kembo Mohadi said National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) is a creation of Government.

“The Launch comes at an opportune time when we as a nation under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa have taken a policy thrust that will move Zimbabwe to be a prosperous and empowered upper middle society by the year 2030,” said Vice President Mohadi.

He said the launch came hard on the heels of the just launched Transitional Stabilization Programme (TSP).

“Central to the TSP is the enunciation of National Unity, Peace, Social Cohesion and Reconciliation as enablers for inclusive sustainable social and economic development,” said Vice President Mohadi.

Vice President Mohadi said the importance of peace and social cohesion in nation building could never be underestimated. He added that Government was committed to the engagement with communities through the various traditional leadership structures available.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Country Director Representative, Georgias Van Montort said Zimbabwe had proved to be moving in the right direction regarding democracy issues.

He said UN agencies would avail funds for the success of the program.

Zimbabwe Peace Project, Director, Jestina Mukoko said NPRC needed to have big ears to issues of women.

“Every women, whether at particular level should be heard, the Commission should go to remote areas like Mzarabani, Esigodini where they should be given room to articulate their issues,” she said.

The NPRC is an independent Commission established in terms of the Constitution of Zimbabwe to promote national peace, healing and reconciliation among other functions.

Meanwhile, the new board comprising of the chair, Retired Justice Selo Masole Nare, Lilian Chigwedere, Choice Ndoro, Patience Zanele Chiradza, Chada Geofrey, Netty Musanhu, Leslie Ncube and Charles Masungure paraded before the Vice President for introductions.

In January, President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission Bill (NPRC) into law to operationalize the Commission that was appointed in 2016.
