Innocent Mujeri
In any democratic society, grievances and disagreements are inevitable. However, the manner in which they are addressed determines whether a nation moves forward in peace or descends into chaos. The recent series of arson attacks targeting private properties, vehicles, and business premises in Harare and Goromonzi have sent shockwaves throughout the country.
The admission of involvement by Blessed Geza in the attacks raises serious concerns about the motives behind such violent actions and the potential consequences if they are not addressed swiftly and decisively.
It is deeply troubling that an individual like Geza, a trained war veteran, would resort to orchestrating acts of destruction rather than advocating for peaceful solutions. As someone with a background in military strategy and discipline, he should know that when one feels aggrieved, there are proper steps to be followed. Dialogue should always be the first and most important avenue for resolving disputes, not violence and intimidation. His actions not only threaten the peace and stability of Zimbabwe but also expose a selfish agenda that disregards the welfare of ordinary citizens.
The attacks on private and business properties serve no constructive purpose; instead, they create fear, instability, and economic hardship for innocent people. What kind of leader or activist resorts to burning property and endangering lives in the name of a cause? Zimbabwe has a long history of resilience, and its people deserve better than individuals who seek to manipulate emotions and frustrations for personal gain.
If individuals like Geza and his sympathisers are not checked and held accountable, Zimbabwe risks descending into an era of lawlessness where violence becomes a tool for political or personal advantage. We have seen this pattern in other parts of the world where extremist groups like Boko Haram, ISIS, and Al-Shabaab started with small acts of violence before growing into organised networks of terror. Zimbabwe must not allow itself to be dragged into a cycle of destruction by those who prioritise their selfish interests over national stability.
The irony of Geza’s actions is that, as a war veteran, he fought for Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and independence. Yet, by engaging in lawlessness and destruction, he is undermining the very country he once swore to protect. What example does this set for the younger generation? Should we teach them that violence is an acceptable means of resolving disputes? That burning businesses and private property is a legitimate way to air grievances and secure redress? Zimbabwe must reject this dangerous narrative and reaffirm its commitment to peace, dialogue, and legal means of conflict resolution.
The Government and security forces must act decisively to prevent further incidents of violence and ensure that perpetrators face the full force of the law. At the same time, efforts must be made to engage communities and address any underlying grievances through peaceful dialogue. It is only through unity and collective effort that Zimbabwe can remain stable and prosperous.
Furthermore, the public must remain vigilant against misinformation and individuals who seek to incite violence for their gain. Social media has become a powerful tool for mobilisation, but it can also be misused to spread false narratives that fuel tensions. Citizens must verify information before acting on it and always prioritise national unity over divisive rhetoric.
Blessed Geza’s actions have shown that he is willing to sacrifice peace and stability for his selfish interests. Zimbabwe cannot afford to allow individuals with such destructive tendencies to dictate the country’s future. The people of Zimbabwe must stand firm against violence and ensure that law and order prevail.
As a nation, we have overcome numerous challenges through resilience, dialogue, and unity. Let us not allow misguided individuals to drag us backward. Instead, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Zimbabwe for future generations.
