Calls for a mass protest in Harare have failed to disrupt daily activities, with businesses, schools, and public transport operating as usual across the capital. Despite expectations of widespread demonstrations, there were no significant disruptions to the city’s routine.
At Copacabana Market, one of the busiest spots in the city, Market Manager Muvengwa Mutendi dismissed the protest, saying traders were focused on their work.
“We are not part of these so-called demonstrations. Traders are busy with their daily routines arranging fresh produce, serving customers, and focusing on their businesses. People are focused on their jobs and families. It seems they have chosen to carry on with life rather than participate in protests.” he said.
Commuters also reported no disturbances on their way to work.
“I expected roadblocks or big crowds, but everything is normal. The roads are clear, and there are no disruptions.” said Tinashe Moyo.
Business owners across the city confirmed that shops, offices, and banks were running without disruptions.
“Customers are coming in like any other day. Our operations are unaffected, and it is just another busy Monday,” said Linda Dube, a grocery store owner.
Schools remained open, and students attended classes as scheduled.
“I have already dropped off my children, and everything is running smoothly,” said Miriam Khumalo, a local parent.
Authorities reported no major incidents. Police were visible at key locations but did not have to intervene. Traffic continued to flow normally, and the city remained calm. Reports from other regions of the country indicated similar quiet conditions.
With the protest failing to gain momentum, life in Harare continued without interruption, with businesses and residents carrying on with their usual routines.
