Fuel Prices go down again

By Shongedzai Mugwagwa

Motorists have applauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s new dispensation for the continued downward review of fuel prices.

However, the precious commodity demand remains very high in town as winding queues are seen on all service stations.

Government through the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) ordered fuel retailers to slash down pump price.

Today motorists woke up to good news as fuel pump price further plummeted  with petrol now  costing $1.33 and diesel selling at $1.28 at pump price.

A survey at most fuel stations in Harare has indicated that retailers have all effected the new pump prices.

In an interview with one of the managers at one service station in the CBD, he told this publication that Government is displaying its honesty to motorists as oil prices globally had plummeted. He added that the development marks a total shift from the previous administration where even global prices had plummeted, fuel prices in Zimbabwe would remain high.

He told the Harare Post that deliveries have improved in the country even though they are falling short of the demand chain of the precious liquid.

“I have noticed that supplies have improved positively that even if you indicate the quantity that you require at your station, it gets delivered unlike in the previous two weeks where we will be rationed,” said the manager who asked to remain anonymous.

Last week, Minister of Energy and Power Development, Dr Joram Gumbo told the media that fuel supplies had normalised and that the market would be flooded by the precious commodity after weeks of scarcity which was sparked by panic buying and hoarding. However, he warned that prices have normalised and they will go hand in glove with the international status quo of oil prices.

Minister Gumbo today told this publication that the fuel prices will not remain fixed as they can be affected by the commodity’s international pricing.
