MDC fires five members

As the infighting within the beleaguered MDC party rages on, five heads in Midlands province have been chopped for allegedly working at cross purpose with the party leader, Nelson Chamisa.

The resolution to eject the five, who are accused of decampaigning Chamisa, was made at a meeting held last Thursday in Kwekwe.

The five are; the Provincial  Assembly Deputy Secretary, Trainer Ruzvidzo; Simon Magida, Gokwe Mapfungautsi District Assembly Chairman; Elliot Dube, Silobela District Assembly Chairman; Chemhere Ndarimani, Gokwe District Assembly Chairman and Shadreck Maturure, Gokwe Kabuyuni District Assembly Chairman.

The Provincial Organising Secretary, Felix Zifudze is currently preparing letters of dismissal. However, insiders say the dismissals are likely to be successfully contested as the province contravened the party constitution. According to the party’s constitution, the provinces recommend to the National Disciplinary Committee for any dismissal.

Provincial Assembly Chairman, Sedwell Bhebhe told the Provincial Executive Committee members that the National Executive is accusing the province of doing nothing to anti-Chamisa members in the province.

Meanwhile, 70 members suspected to be aligned to Chamisa stormed into the meeting demanding the dismissal of Mbizo District Assembly Chairman, Ringisai Munhutu whom they accuse of castigating House of Assembly member for Mbizo constituency, Settlement Chikwinya.

The restive members accused the PEC of protecting Munhutu. They showed the video of Munhutu castigating Chikwinya. Munhutu was immediately suspended pending investigations.

Insiders said Munhutu is pro-Secreatary General, Douglas Mwonzora. “What happened was pre-planned. They want to make it appear as if the outcry is coming from the ordinary people. Chikwinya wants everybody aligned to Mwonzora fired. They have set a bogus Commission of Inquiry to investigate,” said the source.

The province went on to endorse Nelson Chamisa as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections. Ironically, the MDC has been criticising Zanu PF for endorsing President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the presidential candidate for 2023 elections.
