Primary elections expose MDC Alliance violent nature

By Zivanai Dhewa

Political analysts have condemned the MDC Alliance’s violent nature which was exposed over the weekend in Bulawayo as infighting ensured during the Ward 28 primary elections.

Posting on his Twitter handle, one political analyst George Chinga criticised the undemocratic way the MDC Alliance conducted itself during their primary elections for a by-election.

“Chaos at the MDC Alliance Ward 28 primary elections, some members have disturbed the voting process, some of the ballot boxes have been taken.

“This is the ethos that now defines the party, grab power, grab ballot boxes, and grab what does not belong to you. It’s the hooligan student approach to politics,” said Chinga.

Chinga argued that, “This is not a new low.  What do you think the grabbing of position from the palm of Thokozani Khupe portended?  If the polling stations are not manned during elections, this breed can run away with ballot boxes and materials.”

Another political analyst identified as Madzitire added that, “MDC Alliance can never hold a free and fair election, democracy is not their thing.  Violence is in their DNA, they thrive on chaos and violence.”

One MDC Alliance supporter, Bongani Ncube expressed dismay at the way the MDC Alliance leader conducted himself and his party affairs, saying what is happening in that party is a reflection of its leader.

“Chamisa is selfish and childish, I once followed him but just only to realise that he is pushing his personal interest, Morgan Tsvangirai was more, he fought a good fight to liberate people unlike this Advocate,” said Ncube.

Exposing the fissures in the top leadership that have split the party into two, Amanda Phiri, an MDC Alliance supporter and social media activist condemned the politics at play within that party.

“MDC Alliance has developed factions, serious ones.  MDC A secretary general, Douglas Mwonzora and deputy president, Elias Mudzuri have become one link, MDC A national chairperson, Tendai Biti and Chamisa have one thing in common.  But Biti is waiting to pounce on Chamisa, I will detail everything soon,” said Phiri.

Meanwhile, word going around is that the MDC A handlers are fast losing confidence in Chamisa and are contemplating supporting Biti to take over the ropes.
