“On International Women’s Day we celebrate the strong, empowered Zimbabwean women who contribute so much to our nation. We will continue to work towards full equality and further empowerment for girls and women in the new Zimbabwe,” he said.

The Government of Zimbabwe says it is geared at ensuring that awareness on the need and importance of women’s economic empowerment is raised with the aim of promoting and networking them as well as celebrating their achievements.

The commemorations which will be held on the 8th of March 2019 in Gokwe South District run under the international theme, “Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change” while the national theme is “Sustainable infrastructure and access to public services for Gender equality and the empowerment of women.”

The theme puts innovation by women and girls, for women and girls, at the heart of efforts to achieve gender equality.

The day is important to Zimbabwe for it gives women a platform to share their common concerns so that they work together towards a common goal.
