Zvimba North Constituency House of Assembly member, Cde Marian Chombo (ZANU PF) says she is empowering women from her constituency through chicken and gardening projects.

Speaking to Harare Post, Cde Chombo said these projects, among others were some of her major areas of concern this year in trying to empower and transform lives of the rural women from her constituency who are mostly affected by the current economic hardships,” says Cde Chombo.

“We are currently training women from around the constituency on how to manage poultry projects as well as market gardening. I am providing chicks and the chicken feeds so that they start their own projects. I am also providing vegetable seeds and other needed inputs for gardening.

“What I want is for these women to be self-reliant considering that most of them are family heads, they have children to look after, they need school fees and food for their children, hence the thought of empowering them,” she said.

“I am also prioritising access to clean water. It has remained a cause for concern in the constituency. I am happy that to-date, I have assisted in the drilling of close to eight boreholes in the constituency and I want to increase the number to meet the growing population,” she said.

Regarding other constituency development projects, Cde Chombo said roads rehabilitation tops her priority list as they connect vital service centres like clinics, schools and the business centres.

“We have already started working on some parts of Banket-Raffingora road. That is our main and busiest road which also connects us to Guruve in Mashonaland Central province. We are also working on other small feeder roads with the assistance of villagers,” she said.

“On my priority list is also rehabilitation and construction of schools, in trying to complement government efforts in that regard. I want to make sure that children from my constituency have decent classrooms and enough textbooks just like any other developed schools,” she said.
