Government has started the process of laying strategies for vision 2030 where it envisages an upper middle-Income society, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube said this today at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo while presenting the strategies for achieving a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030 during the ZITF international business conference.

The Minister said the New Government was being guided by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to transform the economy.

"New Government is being guided by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the transformative journey aimed at rebuilding the economy...," said Minister Ncube.

The Minister also said that corruption needs to be wiped out for significant national progress.

"We need to fight corruption and focus mainly on building the backbone of the economy which is infrastructure development.

"Despite challenges, the economy remains vibrant with a targeted per Capita income level of US $4 500 by 2030, by 2030 the GDP should be at US $65 billion. Zimbabwe is a gateway to Africa, it is a regional transit country. We need a one stop border post on all borders and a ZIMRA that works. Eventually we should have a dry port of fuel and for any good for the rest of Africa," said the Minister.

Zimbabwe is expected to become a regional manufacturing hub in Africa due to its central location in the Southern part of Africa.
