Harare Magistrate Court has transferred MDC Deputy Chairperson, Job Sikhala’s case to Masvingo High Court, The Harare Post has learnt.

Sikhala faces a jail term of 20 years for treason.

The MDC, through Sikhala, threatened on Sunday that it would overthrow President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Government before the next elections in 2023.

Addressing a rally in Bikita East over the weekend,  Sikhala said:  “When it comes to freeing this country, we are a committed leadership that will give Zanu PF headaches.

“(Amos) Chibaya (MDC Organizing Secretary) was not lying or joking. The war and the fight, we’re going to take it to the doorsteps of Emmerson Mnangagwa. We’re going to overthrow him before 2023. That’s not a joke.”

Giving the judgment, Harare Magistrate referred the matter to Masvingo courts basing on the fact that Sikhala committed the offence in Masvingo province.

Sikhala’s utterances have divided the party with that party’s leader, Nelson Chamisa distancing himself and the party from the reckless treasonous statement. There was a conspicous absence of high ranking party officials like Nelson Chamisa and his deputies who decided to attend to some function in Hopley.

Meanwhile, Siskhala’s sympathizers who subscribe to the Biti faction have, through the party’s twitter handle mobilized members in Masvingo Province to besiege the courts in “support” of Sikhala.
