Khupe braces for legal battle

The Thokozani Khupe - led MDC faction says it is ready to face off with Nelson Chamisa in court following his recent High Court interdict which sets to prevent them from accessing their entitled ZWL$7.5 million under the Political Parties Finance Act.

Speaking to this publication, an inside source revealed that the MDC-T party was in the process of seeking legal guidance to ensure that they aren’t ripped off their entitlement.

“We are in the process of seeking legal counsel on the way forward but we will soon be approaching the courts for our entitlement. The illegitimate Chamisa led faction has already jeopardised our party of a lot of things including our offices and we can’t just sit back and watch them ripping us of our money as well.

“There is so much work to be handled before going for congress and we need that money to ensure that we secure our structures,” he said.

According to the court interdict, Chamisa’s lawyers seek the Minister of Justice’s intervention for the Ministry of Finance and the Parliament of Zimbabwe to deposit the $7 492 500 into the MDC Alliance bank account and not that of the MDC-T.

“It is ordered that within seven days from the date of service of this order, Justice Minister, shall pay into the applicant’s account… held at Steward Bank, all amounts due to the MDC Alliance in terms of the Political Parties Finance Act 2:11 in the sum $7 492 500,00,” read part of their interim order issued under HC2199/20.

This infighting within the MDC is promising to be another battlefield threatening to tear apart the 21-year old opposition party as the court wrangles continue grabbing the limelight.
