More members desert MDC-Alliance

More opposition members continue to desert the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC aligning, themselves with the Thokozani Khupe-led faction as factional battles in the 20-year old opposition party escalates.

The MDC-Alliance Harare Ward 41 Councillor, Kudzai Kadzombe, yesterday announced that she was crossing the floor to join the Khupe faction as Chamisa had no respect for the constitution and court rulings.

“It was my great pleasure to work under the leadership of Adv Chamisa. I want to take this opportunity to apologise to my fellow comrades who I wronged during the time of primary election.

“I just want to make it clear that I am now taking my personal decision which I will not regret. I have decided to follow the constitution of the party and to respect the constitutional leadership which was left by our late President (Morgan) Tsvangirai, “wrote Kadzombe.

Kadzombe said that she did not care about what other MDC Alliance members would say concerning her political move, as she was doing this for her own political career.

“I know some are going to call me all sorts of names or to label me as a sell-out but that is not it. I have made my own decision. I promise to mobilise more councillors to go back to our founding principles and follow our constitution,” said Kadzombe.

Kadzombe’s decision to dump Chamisa is likely to have been influenced by fear of recall from council. To date 13 legislators who have chosen to align themselves with Chamisa have since been recalled from the august house. The dreaded recall is likely going to spread to councillors.

Chamisa has been castigated by his members for demonstrating immaturity in his decision-making, costing the party dearly, as it is now likely to split again.

Political analyst, Maxwell Saungweme said Chamisa should know that there is more to politics that being legalistic and eloquent.

“Politics is not about just being legalistic and eloquent, but also about being calculative and meticulously combining this with dialogue, compromise, leadership and the law,” said Saungweme.

The members of MDC-Alliance, fearing reprisal have been clandestinely accusing Chamisa for his egoistic behaviour and failing to work with other political parties to build Zimbabwe.
