Mwonzora slams cover demos

MDC-T Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora has slammed plans by various opposition figures and MDC Alliance to stage an anti-government demonstration on 31 July 2020.

In an interview with the Harare Post on the side-lines of a public hearing on the Cyber Security and Data Protection Bill by joint Parliamentary committees in Luveve on Monday, Mwonzora said the demonstration was calculated to disrupt MDC-T’s congress scheduled to be held on the same date.

He said, “What is clear is that after we had announced plans to hold our extraordinary congress on 31 July, Advocate Chamisa and his group started organizing their demonstration on the same date. Which means the demonstration is calculated to disrupt our congress.

“That is not acceptable.  It’s is a demonstration that is calculated to cause violence and anarchy on the same day. It’s a demonstration that is calculated to abrogate human rights.”

He added that, “I hope the people of Zimbabwe will see that this is violence in the making and will not support the demonstration.”

He further accused Chamisa and his MPs of funding violence to repossess Harvest House.

The infighting in the MDC poses threats of lawlessness in the country as the factions employ dirty tactics to out do each other.
