Health Ministry mourns Munyaka

Ministry of Health and Child Care has today sent condolences to the Munyaka family following the death of veteran Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) journalist Janet Munyaka on Saturday.

Munyaka, 48, who was the national broadcaster’s Diplomatic Correspondent, succumbed to the corona virus at St Anne’s Hospital in Harare and she will be buried today at Glen Forest Memorial Park in line with COVID-19 regulations.

The Ministry appreciated Munyaka’s time as a devoted health reporter, for more two decades.

“The Honourable Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care General (Rtd) Dr Constatino Chiwenga, Honourable Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro, Air Commodore Dr James Chimedza Secretary for Health and Child Care and staff extend their deepest condolences to the Munyaka family, friends and relatives on the untimely death of Janet Munyaka who recently succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday 5 December 2020.

“The veteran journalist has been a health reporter and devoted two decades of her life to bring out health stories that matter to the people of Zimbabwe. Indeed Janet will be remembered as a source of knowledge and experience in the journalism fraternity. We pray for God's strength during this difficult moment to the Munyaka Family, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and health reporters,” said the Ministry.

Freelance journalist, Tendai Chasi described Munyaka as a hard worker who worked hard to promote the girl child.

“I remember Munyaka as a veteran journalist, hard worker and one of the female media professionals who managed to serve her country well in the face of challenges that face the girl child. She was a hard working news reporter who mixed well with other journalists, she was indeed an inspiration to many,” he said.

As at 06 December 2020, Zimbabwe had 10718 confirmed cases, including 8880 recoveries and 291 deaths and health authorities continue to encourage people to adhere to lockdown measures to remain safe.
