….as members accuse their president of being a dictator

Chaos and fierce factional fights continue to rock the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) with the Secretary General of that formation Ackim Mhlanga ,accusing MRP president Mqondisi Moyo of being a dictator and divisive.

The clash between Mhlanga and Moyo started when that party’s Advisory Board Chairman, Ngwalo Nyathi, wrote a letter to Mhlanga informing him that he has been relieved of his duties as that party’s Secretary General with immediate effect.

Mhlanga is challenging his dismissal as the MRP’s Secretary General and has since accused Moyo of fighting a personal war with him.

In a letter to that party’s National Chairman Mqondisi Ndebele; Mhlanga said Nyathi has no right to relieve him of his duties as the Secretary General of that party.

“Ngwalo Nyathi and the Advisory Board acted outside their mandate by so doing violating their constitutional duties. According to rule 16.2, they are an advisory committee to the NEC and that limits them to advising not making binding decisions or taking action which is irrational on that matter, hence that on its own has reduced them to be untrustworthy and incompetent to hold the office of such a demanding institution.

“They did so by taking the side of the President, without hearing both sides regarding the matter at hand. By so doing they entrenched dictatorship and lowered the bar of democracy within the institution,” complained Mhlanga.

Mhlanga further said that the decision to relieve him as the Secretary General of that party was reached without him being given a chance to explain himself.

“Let me put it clear to you sir,  that since the Advisory Board was tasked in a meeting that you chaired, to give advice on the matter, they never called me to hear the side of my story but it is of public knowledge that President Moyo sat with them several times briefing them of what decision to take. Moyo even phoned from South Africa stopping the scheduled council of elders meeting instructing them to wait for him so that he gives them direction.

“In that regard the recommendations are already conflicted. Apart from that, their stance to send me directly a letter of dismissal without the approval of the NEC violated the constitutional set procedures of the party,” said Mhlanga.

Mhlanga urged that party’s Chairman to investigate Moyo on his fitness to hold the office of the president and said it’s high time a new leader is elected for that political outfit.

Mhlanga further accused Moyo of persecuting him and alleged that Moyo is not receptive to other people’s ideas. Mhlanga alleged that MRP membership base has continued to dwindle because of Moyo’s dictatorial tendencies.

MRP is a little known political outfit formed in 2014 to advocate for secession of parts of the Matabeleland region from the entire Zimbabwe. Since its formation, the party has failed to gain traction in the Zimbabwean political arena.
