More apply to join ZANU PF

A lot of opposition members across the country have applied to join the ruling ZANU PF party citing lack of political direction and a clear ideology from the opposition parties.

A source who spoke to this publication said the coming months will see a multitude of opposition members flocking back to ZANU PF as people have realized that the opposition has nothing to offer.

“In the coming months, we are likely to see a lot of people defecting from the opposition parties to the ruling party because the electorate are now aware that the opposition has nothing meaningful to offer to them. I want to tell you that in Mashonaland East alone, a lot of the opposition heavy weights such as retired Brigadier Ambrose Mutinhiri, Oswell Gwanzura, Josphat Kamwendo and Boniface Mutize have all applied to join the ruling party. More opposition members in that Province are expected to follow suit,” said the source.

The same source said that he has information that Mt Darwin-based MDC Alliance popular activist, Brian Pongweni, have approached the ZANU PF leadership in that area seeking admission into the party.

According to the source, Pongweni told the ZANU PF leadership that he is dumping the MDC Alliance because the opposition’s programmes are only meant to enrich the top leadership.

“Pongweni has accused the MDC Alliance leadership of concentrating on empowering themselves. He said that the MDC Alliance is all about infighting and nothing tangible which benefits the members,” added the source.

The source added that in Manicaland Province, Jacob Mbiriri and Mauruka Zenda, known MDC Alliance activists, have also applied to join the ruling party.

The source said that the two have regretted the time they spent in the opposition trenches saying that they now want to participate in the country’s development under the ZANU PF banner.

Recently, the MDC Alliance have been faced with defections of senior members to ZANU PF.

The likes of Tracy Mutinhiri, Obert Gutu, Lilian Timveous and Blessing Chebundo among many others have dumped the opposition outfit citing lack of leadership and violent politics as some of their reasons to dump the Western-sponsored opposition.
