MDC Alliance activist loses wife to fellow party member

Recently released MDC Alliance activist, Tungamirai Madzokere lost his wife to a fellow party member who allegedly thought that Madzokere would not be released from prison any time soon.

Madzokere, who was serving a 20-year prison term on charges of murdering a police inspector, Petros Mutedza, in 2011 was released from prison last week after only serving eight years and found his home deserted with his wife having eloped to another man.

According to a member of the Madzokere family, the wife left her matrimonial home to live with her new man who is ironically a cousin of Paul Madzorera, the renowned MDC Alliance music composer.

“When Madzokere was released from prison, he found that his wife had already moved on. Interestingly his wife’s new husband is Paul Madzorera’s cousin. Both Paul Madzorera and Tungamirai Madzokere are members of the MDC Alliance. Ironically, on several occasions Madzorera visited Madzokere in prison but never disclosed the new development to his incarcerated friend Madzokere,” said the source.

The same source added that the MDC Alliance leadership knew that Madzokere’s wife had moved on but they chose not to tell him of the development.

“Madzokere is hurt that the MDC Alliance leadership knew about his wife’s shenanigans with Madzorera’s cousin but they did not tell him. Maybe they thought that he would die in prison and would not know about his wife being taken by Madzorera’s cousin. Madzokere confronted the leadership and asked them why they allowed a fellow party member to take his wife, No one gave him a satisfactory answer and he has vowed to fight back until he takes back his wife,” added the source.

According to the source, some of Madzokere’s relatives are not MDC Alliance supporters and they did not sympathise with him when his wife chose to move on with another man. They saw it as God’s punishment on Madzokere for murdering an innocent police officer.

Yesterday Madzokere addressed a presser and confirmed that his wife had left their matrimonial home some eight months ago and is now living with another man.

Madzokere is not the first MDC Alliance activist to lament after being released from prison. The trio of Joanna Mamombe, Cecelia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova also complained that their party neglected them when they were incarcerated. They accused the party for riding on their woes to fundraise while neglecting their welfare. It is also believed that the MDC Alliance has forgotten about Makomborero Haruzivishe who is serving a prison time for defying lockdown regulations.

This publication also has it on good authority that Madzokere is not the only member to lose his wife to a fellow party member as they are reports that some senior MDC Alliance members, Job Sikhala included, are making sexual advances to Sheffra Dzamara, wife of missing activist Itai Dzamara. It is believed that it’s a worrying trend within the MDC Alliance for senior members to snatch wives and girlfriends of incarcerated members.
