MDC-A leadership paid to ignore corruption by councillors-Mliswa

Norton Independent Legislator, Temba Mliswa has lambasted the MDC-Alliance for ignoring corruption involving their Councillors, saying this buttresses rumours that the leaders are being paid by the councillors to ignore corruption which has crippled urban councils.

Posting on his Twitter handle yesterday, Mliswa said the opposition party should not pretend to care about corruption when it concerns others yet fails to act when it involves their own.

“If the opposition is sincere in fighting corruption, the many shenanigans at councils are there beckoning and they have not acted against them. This buttresses rumours that their leaders are paid to ignore the corruption by their councillors.

“Be the government in waiting on the ground and not on social media. You cannot exhibit weakness against corruption near you and act strong against outsiders. In Norton we have decided we won’t accommodate corrupt councillors and will have independent members contesting come 2023,” posted Mliswa.

Mliswa said the elitist corruption of like-minded MDC-Alliance leaders conniving against poor residents will not work.

MDC-Alliance councillors have for a long time been involved in corrupt land deals but the opposition leadership has failed to resolve the matter because they are allegedly benefiting from the corruption.

MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has on several occasions been accused of being a beneficiary of corrupt land deals by his councillors. Chamisa himself was once accused of having benefited from a 3000sqm stand number 19740 in Gunhill and there was no record of payment. His brother Starman Chamisa was also allegedly allocated a residential stand measuring 2000sqm opposite the United States of America Embassy in Westgate without following proper procedures.

The MDC-Alliance led urban councils are failing to provide basic service delivery like provision of water, collection of garbage and maintenance of proper roads due to corruption.

The opposition outfit is also allegedly milking urban councils, using city coffers and land to fund its subversive intentions and campaigns for the 2023 harmonised elections.
