Zimbabwe receives 1 million doses of Sinovac

Zimbabwe yesterday received another batch of 1 million doses of Sinovac, with another 1.5 million expected by the end of the week.

To date Zimbabwe has received nearly 5.3 million Covid-19 doses with 1 438 890 people having been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Posting on his Twitter handle yesterday over the delivery, Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube said, “Walking the talk, Zimbabwe today (yesterday) received an additional 1 million doses of World Health Organisation Approved Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines. We expect to receive an additional 1.5 million vaccines later this week.

“To date, Zimbabwe has received over 5 million vaccine doses, saving lives and livelihoods. Vaccination program is part of Zimbabwe’s economic recovery strategy.”

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently commended Zimbabwe for the successful roll out of the Covid-19 vaccination programme which has seen more than a million people receiving the first dose.

In a speech read on his behalf by the World Health Organisation Covid-19 Incident manager, Dr Lincoln Charimani, during the official handover and receipt of medical suppliers by the Germany Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Mr Udo Volz, WHO country representative Dr Alex Gasasira lauded the Government of Zimbabwe for its strong national response to the pandemic.

“I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the Government of Zimbabwe for the continued very strong leadership in the national response. The ongoing efforts to ensure stronger compliance with public health and social measures as well as increased Covid-19 vaccination coverage in the population are laudable,” he said.

Meanwhile as at July 2021, the country had 97 277 confirmed cases, including 64 628 recoveries and 3 050 deaths.
