Government has reacted furiously and opened investigations at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Airport Immigration after a Kenyan tourism blogger, African Tigress claimed that officers demanded a bribe for passage into Zimbabwe.

In a social media video that went viral, African Tigress narrated the ordeal exposing the delays and how the immigration officers allegedly asked for a bribe.

Given Government's stance on corruption, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe directed the Immigration Department to investigate the matter.

“Immigration officials are alleged to have attempted to extort money from the visiting foreign national.

“The alleged bribery by Immigration officials is not only deplorable but out of sync with the expected ethical conduct by staff manning our Ports of Entry and Exit. The alleged unprofessional and criminal conduct by Immigration officials does not reflect our attitude and decorum as a nation towards our visitors.

“... investigations are currently underway to ascertain the facts and anyone caught on the wrong side of the law will be dealt with accordingly,” Kazembe said.

Since 2018, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has maintained a tough stance on corruption, which he described as a cancerous vice to the state.

President Mnangagwa has since capacitated the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission as well as form another special anti-graft body led by Thabani Mpofu to handle corruption issues.

The anti-corruption blitz by Government has netted many, including former Government ministers, Prisca Mupfumira, Samuel Udenge, Obediah Moyo, among others,  in a bid to set the tone on corruption.
