…..as they violate bail conditions

The MDC Alliance duo of National Youth Assembly Chairperson Obey Sithole and Deputy Youth Organizing Secretary Netsai Marowa are suspected to have skipped the border in a bid to escape from prosecution for the criminal charges they are facing.

Sithole is currently on bail, facing charges of criminal nuisance, while Marowa is facing charges of faking her own abduction.

A source who preferred anonymity told this publication that Sithole and Marowa had illegally jumped the border into Zambia enroute to Norway, where they have been offered scholarships by the Norwegian Embassy in Zimbabwe under the Norwegian Students and Academics International Assistance Fund Scholarship Program.

“Sithole and Marowa have illegally skipped the border into Zambia enroute to Norway. The duo have pending court cases for criminal nuisance and faking abduction respectively. The party organized for the duo’s escape so that they will not be prosecuted for their crimes,” said the source.

According to the source, there was no official record of the duo’s leaving the country and there is belief that the duo, through the assistance of their party’s leadership, bribed some immigration officials (names supplied) to facilitate their way out of the country. The same source added that the duo’s escape was a clear violation of their bail and reporting conditions and there is now a possibility that they would abscond trial.

The source added that it was shocking that the police was yet to seek a warrant of arrest for Marowa despite her having last reported to the police on 23 July, thereby violating her bail conditions. The source further said that Sithole and Marowa’s illegal escape to Norway had the blessing of their party’s leadership, which wants to frustrate the prosecution of the trio of Marowa, Cecelia Chimbiri and Joanna Mamombe. The trio is jointly charged for faking their abduction. The MDC Alliance is of the view that the trial cannot proceed in the absence of one of the accused persons.

The same source said that the MDC Alliance had all along been planning to facilitate the escape of all its members facing criminal charges and they had initially planned to smuggle Mamombe et al to South Africa, ostensibly to seek medical treatment.

It is believed that the MDC Alliance is now clandestinely planning to facilitate the escape of Chimbiri and Mamombe and the duo are likely to go to another Scandinavian country.

According to the source, Chamisa wants Mamombe to be his successor and was personally facilitating her escape to study as she prepares to take the MDC Alliance leadership reins in future.

Efforts to get a comment from the MDC Alliance National Spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, were futile as she was not picking up her mobile phones.
