Close to 1000 people, including the elderly from Zvimba North constituency, during the weekend benefitted from a free mobile clinic outreach programme organised by the constituency’s Zanu-PF legislator who is also Local Government Deputy Minister, Marian Chombo.
The mobile clinic which was at Chimwemwe farm in ward 17, offered free access to health, to people with various ailments among them diabetes and High Blood Pressure patients.
Speaking to Harare Post at the side-lines of the event, Honourable Chombo said the free mobile clinic initiative was well received by the people from ward 17 and surrounding areas who normally walk close to ten kilometres to Banket hospital to access health services.
“People have really appreciated this initiative. We have brought five doctors and free medicines from Harare and we have also mobilised a team of health personnel from Banket hospital who are focussing on the testing and inoculation of COVID-19 vaccines. People from this area walk more than 9 kilometres to Banket hospital, so this programme came as a relief to them.
“We are however in the process of converting this farm house, here at Chimwemwe farm into a clinic and we have since started renovating it using Devolution funds we got from the Government. It is my hope that it will start operating early next year. We are working closely with officials from the Ministry of Health and Child Care for the success of the project,” said Honourable Chombo.
She added that the same mobile clinic programme will also be carried out in other wards of the constituency so as to benefit many with various ailments.
Zanu-PF Seven Heroes district Chairperson Mr Nesbet Mhonda praised Honourable Chombo’s initiative saying that it will go a long way in improving the people’s health, while also demonstrating to the people that Deputy Minister CHOMBO and the ruling party Zanu-PF care for them.
Mr Mhonda revealed that some of the projects lined up in the constituency include market gardening for women and fish farming for youths. He also said that they are currently mobilising people to register as voters in the forthcoming 2023 harmonised election.
