MDC Alliance perpetrated violence on the rise

A significant number of MDC Alliance members and supporters have been arraigned before the courts for perpetrating acts of political violence against the ruling Zanu PF’s supporters.

Last week an MDC Alliance supporter, Qiniso Fuyane from Musebele village in Lupane was brought before Lupane Magistrate, Nondumo Masuku facing charges of assaulting a Zanu PF member, Mathew Sibanda.

It is the State’s case that the accused attacked Sibanda in Musebele village two weeks ago for wearing a Zanu PF t-shirt. Sibanda reported the case at Jotsholo Police Station.

Masuku remanded Fuyane in custody to 23 July pending further investigations.

Relatedly, on Saturday, MDC Alliance Mount Darwin North ward 3 Councilor, Christopher Makisheni, disrupted the distribution of maize received under the Government’s Drought Relief Programme at Gomo Primary School demanding that he was the rightful person to distribute the maize as the sitting councilor. The maize was being distributed by Head of Mt Darwin District Social Welfare, Willie Chibaya.

Makisheni is reported to have been further infuriated by finding Zanu PF aspiring councilor, Laven Mailinga at the venue. Makisheni is said to have accused Mailinga of trying to buy votes using the maize in question, an allegation the Zanu PF aspiring councilor refuted arguing that as a ward resident, he was entitled to receive the maize.

MDC Alliance members are said to have contacted their Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora alleging that Mailinga was vote buying using Drought Relief Programme maize. Mwonzora is said to have advised them to inform the European Union (EU) observers that Government was distributing maize along partisan lines.

In Bindura South Constituency, six Zanu PF members led by Tafadzwa Matoya from Chin’unu Party district were waylaid by unidentified 15 MDC Alliance supporters while intending to conduct a door-to-door campaign in Simora village. The MDC Alliance supporters prohibited the six to enter Simora village which led to a confrontation that degenerated into a fist fight. MDC Alliance supporters are said to have taken videos during the fracas for unknown purposes.
