Mahere tells Hwende to stay in his lane

Political fights within the MDC Alliance continue unabated with that party’s Secretary General, Charlton Hwende, and spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere recently undressing each other on Twitter.

The spat between Mahere and Hwende was triggered by the latter’s tweet where he was courting the self-exiled G40 kingpin,  Professor Jonathan Moyo to smoke a ‘peace pipe’ with Alex Magaisa and work for the MDC Alliance. Hwende appealed to Prof Moyo and Magaisa who have been trading blows on Twitter saying that their clashes were not helping the MDC Alliance cause.

“We are stronger together and on behalf of the @mdczimbabwe (MDC Alliance) leadership and membership, I would like to publicly appeal to Mukoma @Wamagaisa (Alex Magaisa) and Mukoma @ProfJNMoyo (Jonathan Moyo) to find each other and end their fallout for the sake of the suffering Zimbabweans,” tweeted Hwende.

However, Hwende’s tweet irked Mahere who quickly responded saying that Hwende had no mandate to speak on behalf of the MDC Alliance. Mahere was incensed by Hwende’s claim that he was speaking on behalf of the MDC Alliance and other members when he was not the party spokesperson.

“Please be reminded that the formal position of the MDC Alliance is always communicated through its official channels designed for this purpose. We are a movement committed to values, ideas and principles with a view to win Zimbabwe for change then form a people’s Government,” tweeted Mahere.

The MDC Alliance leadership has been trading blows on social media, a move interpreted by political analysts as a sign of deep factional fights within the opposition movement.

Efforts to get a comment from Hwende and Mahere were futile as their mobile phones were not reachable.
