Ncube backs Moyo’s presidential bid

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim co-vice president Welshman Ncube is reportedly backing Lovemore Moyo’s presidential bid in next year’s presidential elections.

According to a source who spoke to this publication, Ncube conducted a series of clandestine meetings with the former united MDC-T national chairperson, Moyo and the duo resolved that the latter should revive his United Movement for Devolution (UMP) party to accommodate CCC members in Matebeleland region who continue to be frustrated by Nelson Chamisa’s leadership style.

“Ncube held meetings with Moyo and the duo agreed that Moyo should revive his UMP party to accommodate CCC members in Matebeleland region who continue to be frustrated by Chamisa’s dictatorial leadership style,” said the source.

According to the source, Ncube and Moyo recently established what they called ‘The Matebeleland Political Pact’ where they agreed that they should rally people from that region to render their support to a Ndebele speaking candidate. The idea is to derail Chamisa’s presidential bid as he is now seen as anti-Ndebele speaking people.

The same source said that Ncube confided in Moyo that as much as he wanted to contest the presidential elections, he chose to give others a chance as he and Thokozani Khupe once contested the country’s presidency and performed dismally.

According to the source, the duo agreed to approach Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) leader Mqondisi Moyo and ZAPU’s leader Sibangilizwe Nkomo to urge them to support Moyo’s presidential bid.

“Ncube and Moyo will soon approach Mqondisi Moyo and Nkomo to urge them to support Moyo’s presidential bid. This is because it is a general belief in Matebeleland region that Moyo is level headed and most mature than most opposition leaders in the region,” said the source.

The source added that there was a general consensus that Chamisa could not be a political alternative in Matebeleland region hence they now want a Ndebele candidate to fully rally behind.

Efforts to get a comment from Ncube and Moyo were futile as their mobile phones were not reachable.
