Following the expose of a secret meeting between European Union (EU) Ambassadors and the opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa, Citizens came out gun blazing against the Western Ambassadors for meddling in the internal affairs of Zimbabwe.

Political analysts accused the EU Ambassadors of dialoguing with Zimbabwe in bad faith.

According to a well-placed contact, the EU Ambassadors from Romania, Spain, France, Germany and Netherlands met Chamisa at the house of Timo Olkonnenn number 3 Timber Close, Chisipite where they sought concerns of Chamisa ahead of the 7th June Zim-EU dialogue.

Meanwhile, the Zim-EU dialogue which was the Fourth Session of the Article 8 Political Dialogue between Zimbabwe and the EU, saw Zimbabwe and EU exchanging experiences on the country`s reform path in terms of legislative and amendments and statute alignment to the Constitution. They also discussed anti-corruption intensification efforts by the Government, operationalizing the constitutional demands to respect for human rights, and good rule of law, democracy, human rights, and good governance, investment attraction, media freedoms, and the Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO) regulation strategies.

One Political analyst Vimbai Matenda, lambasted the EU-Chamisa meeting saying that the meeting was up to no good because they only met one opposition political party, yet there are many political parties in Zimbabwe.

“If they consulted Chamisa as a political party leader, why they didn’t also consult other political party leaders? CCC is not the only political party in the country,” commented Matenda from the University of Zimbabwe.

Another political analyst Rambai Chimwe criticized the meeting saying that the secret meeting showed that Chamisa is being handled by these EU Ambassadors.

“The secret meeting shows Chamisa is not his own man. He needs hand holding by the EU. President Emmerson Mnangagwa should read a riot act to EU Ambassadors in Zimbabwe so that they do not meddle in international affairs,” he said.

Another political analyst, Amos Matayi from Midlands State University lambasted the EU saying that it must concentrate more on building than these secret meetings with only one opposition party.

“Why can’t the EU concentrate on building our countries? If they are so genuine, they must come out open and meet our Government. These secret meetings are just meant to cause hitches in the country,” commented Matayi.

Chamisa has a record of having secret meetings with the Westerners and he is also known for tarnishing the image of the Government and the ruling party whenever he is interviewed by Journalists and also meet Western delegates.
