The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim deputy national chairperson and lawyer, Job Sikhala is being accused of taking advantage of the deceased Moreblessing Ali’s family to swindle them of their hard earned cash.

Ali, an alleged CCC activist was gruesomely murdered and her lifeless body was discovered last Saturday in a disused well in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Sikhala visited Ali’s family and told them that he would provide legal counsel until they get to the bottom of the case and the killers are apprehended.

“Sikhala approached Ali’s family and said he would assist them with all legal requirements surrounding Moreblessing’s death. He said he would stand with the family until the killers were accounted for. The problem now is that Sikhala charged an exorbitant fee for his services which the family is struggling to raise,” said the source.

“Sikhala assured the Alis that he would make sure that Government pays them handsomely for the loss of their beloved one. It is this assurance that has triggered the family to agree on hiring Sikhala,” added the source.

In a tweet yesterday, Sikhala confirmed that he was indeed Ali’s family legal counsel but he didn’t disclose that he was charging them for his services.

The source added that Ali’s family was divided over Sikhala as some of them view him as a confrontational politician who wanted to use Moreblessing’s death to score cheap political goals.

“Ali’s family is divided over Sikhala. Some of them don’t want him to be the family’s lawyer because they think that Sikhala has an ulterior motive to use Moreblessing’s death to score cheap political goals. However, they were threatened by Sikhala that it’s illegal to change a lawyer before the conclusion of the matter as that would bring some financial burden to the family,” said the source.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned some politicians not to interfere with investigations and allow the police to get to the bottom of Ali’s murder case.

“The police reiterate that there is a callous and heinous crime of which all efforts will be made to ensure that suspects are brought to book without fail. However, any form of intimidation or threats under the guise of politics or social media antics are being monitored by the police. Politicians should not interfere with criminal investigations and allow the due processes of the law to be followed,” said the Police.

Ali’s funeral procession will take place in Nyatsime amid reports that her former boyfriend Pius Jamba was the prime suspect.
