NGOs meddling in opposition politics

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) by the name Whispers, has been accused of meddling in opposition politics by going around the country campaigning for the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ahead of next year’s elections.

A source who spoke to this publication said Whispers led by its Executive Director, Sibonukuhle Buhlungu, set bases in Mashonaland West Province where it is urging first time voters to register to vote and eventually cast their votes for CCC in next year’s polls.

“Whispers has crossed its mandate. It is going around the country campaigning for CCC. They are giving incentives to some young women to register to vote so that they will cast their votes for CCC in next year’s elections. Curently it has set bases in Makonde, Zvimba and Chinhoyi where it is freely campaigning for the opposition,” said the source.

The source added that there were strong suspicions that Whispers’ activities were being sponsored by the Swedish Government in its efforts to effect regime change in Zimbabwe.

“It is suspected that Whispers is being financially sponsored by the Swedish Government .This can only explain the source of money that the NGO is giving to first time voters as incentives for them to register to vote. I hope the authorities will direct this NGO to stop meddling in political affairs of the country,” said the source.

The source added that Whispers activities were not only concentrated in Mashonaland West Province but has plans to go all over the country campaigning for CCC. The source further claimed that Whispers had become a foot soldier for the opposition as most of its members were always donning yellow clothes, the colours of CCC.

Meanwhile, efforts to get a comment from Whispers Director, Buhlungu were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.
