Government will continue crafting and implementing children and youth centred policies as they are the future of this country.

This was said today by President Emmerson Mnangagwa during the children’s party he hosted together with Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa at Pfura stadium in Mt Darwin.

Giving his keynote address at the party, the President said that his Government would continue availing resources to the disadvantaged children so that they meet their educational needs.

“My Government will ensure projects and programmes that help the lives of children. This includes access to quality education for our children from different backgrounds and parts of the country.

“As we continue to modernise and industrialise our country, under Vision 2030, my Government will make resources available for disadvantaged children in primary and secondary school, including those with disabilities,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa added that it was important for children to be involved in programmes that directly affect them so that they could help shape their future. He added that the country’s education system was being changed so that children could be equipped with relevant skills.

“As a Government, we are changing and improving our education system for the better and preparing our young people for the future. The on-going curriculum review will make sure that our learners have skills and knowledge that will help speed up the modernisation of our great country. We are also promoting, strengthening and broadening the learning, vocational and entrepreneurship related studies,” added the President.

He urged the children to take pride in their culture, identity, languages and the on-going development activities in the country. He added that children should emulate the patriotic spirit and sacrifices exhibited by the freedom fighters.

The President bemoaned rampant drug abuse at some schools and urged the children to desist from taking harmful substances. He said that teachers, parents and guardians should continue disciplining the children so that they don’t go astray.

Meanwhile, over 1 500 children drawn from different schools across the country attended the party which was also graced by vice President Constantino Chiwenga and some senior Government officials. The President then donated 1 000 computers to be distributed to various schools in Mashonaland Central province.
