New details on CCC eviction emerge

New details have revealed that Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) was evicted from its rented offices at Number 4 Hilmoton in Malbereign due to its members’ violent clashes and noise that disturbed the peace of neighbours.

A source who spoke to this publication said that the then CCC landlord, Engelbert Nemwada yielded to pressure from neighbours who demanded  the eviction of the noisy CCC from its rented offices as it was disturbing the peace of residents. According to source, CCC members would always engage in violent skirmishes whenever they held meetings at number 4 Hilmoton in Malbereign.

According to the source, Nemwada tried to resist the call by neighbours to evict CCC but he latter yielded to pressure after the penniless party failed to pay rent for a couple of months .

“CCC was evicted from its rented offices because its members would always fight whenever they held meetings at that place. The neighbours complained to the property owner, Nemwada, that CCC was disturbing their peace. Nemwada later yielded to pressure and evicted the CCC on a short notice,” said the source.

The same source added that, currently CCC was frantically looking for new offices to accommodate its Independent Candidate Selection Panel that is finalising names of that party’s candidates for the forthcoming elections.

“The party is in need of new offices as the new developments have affected the candidate selection process. The Independent Candidate Selection panel, that is finalising the list of candidates for the forthcoming elections, have been affected by the eviction. This might further delay the announcement of candidates who would represent the party in this year’s Harmonised General Elections,” added the source.

According to the source, CCC was now temporarily operating from Ridgeview Guest house in Belvedere and from Beverly Court’s third floor in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD).

“Currently, the party has no permanent offices and it is temporarily operating from Beverly Court in the CBD and from Ridgeview Guest house in Belvedere. The party’s coffers are in red making it difficult for it to quickly acquire new party offices,” said the source.

Efforts to get a comment from CCC interim national spokesperson were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.
