Cde Magwizi declared liberation hero

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has conferred the distinguished Liberation Hero Status upon the late Cde Saunders Nyika Magwizi, who died on February 4, 2024, in Masvingo.

The announcement of the liberation hero status, delivered by the ZANU PF Secretary General, Cde Dr. Obert Mpofu, yesterday, resonated with profound respect and honour for the unwavering dedication of Cde Magwizi to the cause of Zimbabwe's liberation.

“The President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, has conferred Liberation Hero Status to the late Cde Saunders Nyika Magwizi, who died on February 4, 2024, and will be buried at Ballymore Farm, Masvingo,” said Cde Mpofu.

Born in the Chivi, Cde Magwizi, fondly known by the endearing monikers of "Kabila" or "Magadzanhaka," etched his legacy as a stalwart businessman and a fervent member of the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA).

His illustrious journey was intertwined seamlessly with the annals of Zimbabwe's history, marked by a resolute commitment to the principles of freedom and justice.

A towering figure in Chivi's political landscape, Cde Magwizi served as the esteemed ruling Party councillor for an unprecedented span of 43 years, spanning from the dawn of independence in 1980.

This enduring tenure attested not only to his astute leadership but also to the profound trust and affection bestowed upon him by the people he tirelessly served.

Moreover, Cde Magwizi's indomitable spirit reverberated beyond the realms of politics as he emerged as a beacon of support for the liberation struggle in Chivi.

Through his benevolent contributions of food and clothing, he lent unwavering aid to the brave freedom fighters who valiantly battled for Zimbabwe's sovereignty.

As the nation mourns the loss of a revered patriot, funeral arrangements for Cde Magwizi, aged 75 at the time of his passing, shall be announced in due course.

In his departure, he leaves behind a cherished legacy and a loving family, survived by his wife and 12 children.
