The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has informed citizens that the security situation in the country remains peaceful and that people are free to move without restriction.

In an official statement released this afternoon, Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged the public to ignore misleading social media messages that falsely claim restrictions on movement.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that the security situation in the country is peaceful and indeed conducive for the public to freely move from one place to another," the statement read.

Commissioner Nyathi further warned that authorities will take firm action against individuals attempting to interfere with the public’s daily activities under the pretence of demonstrations or strikes.

"The Police will take stern action on anyone who will try to stop the public from going to work or interfere with their day-to-day activities under the guise of perceived demonstrations or strikes,” he said.

Additionally, the police cautioned school authorities—particularly private institutions—against spreading false claims on social media regarding school operations.

The statement indicated that some private schools had dismissed pupils prematurely, citing security concerns, and falsely claimed that classes would resume in May 2025.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns school authorities, especially private schools, who have sent pupils home on false social media claims and indicated that they will be called back in May 2025," the statement added.

In response to these reports, the Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba has engaged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to address the actions of the concerned private schools.

Authorities have encouraged the public to report any individuals inciting violence, issuing threats, or intimidating others into unlawful activities.

Contact numbers for police services have been provided for citizens to report any security-related concerns.

Meanwhile, the Police statement comes amid growing concerns over misinformation on social media, with law enforcement reiterating that the public should rely on official channels for credible information regarding national security and public safety.
