Gutu Central Constituency is set to host a vital medical outreach program on May 3 and 4, aimed at expanding access to essential healthcare services for rural communities. The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Health and Child Care and coordinated by the local leadership, will provide free medical services to residents in wards 22 and 8.
On May 3, the outreach will be held at MunjanganjaHigh School in Ward 22, while on May 4, services will be available at Hamandishe Primary School in Ward 8. The programme will include general medical check-ups, treatment for chronic and acute illnesses, maternal health services, and health education.
Gutu Central legislator, Winston Chitando, said the outreach is part of ongoing efforts to bring healthcare closer to the people.
“This outreach is about taking healthcare to the people. We are committed to making sure every citizen, regardless of their location, receives the medical attention they need. We are grateful to the medical professionals and partners who are making this possible,” said Chitando
Field officer for Gutu Central, Trust Bare, confirmed that preparations are progressing smoothly and community mobilization efforts have been successful.
“We have been engaging with local leaders and villagers to mobilise the community. There is a real sense of anticipation, especially among the elderly and those with chronic conditions who often struggle to access services,” Bare said.
Local resident Davison Chitengedza welcomed the initiative, highlighting the challenges many villagers face in accessing healthcare.
“We are very happy this is happening. Most people cannot afford to travel to the district hospital, so this outreach means a lot to us,” Chitengedza said.
Chitando encouraged residents to attend the programme early at the designated schools and bring any relevant medical records. Mobile units will also be available to assist those who are unable to travel.
