President Mnangagwa calls for maximum land utilisation

Addressing Zanu PF Central Committee members in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa also called for the resuscitation of livestock production and value chain industries.

“Party cadres should lead in maximum land utilisation, agriculture productivity and mechanisation. The output of cotton, soya beans, small grains, wheat, among others must be increased.

“Livestock productivity and value chain industries must be resuscitated for both local and international markets,” he said.

President Mnangagwa further emphasised the need for training of farmers at grassroots level to enter into the horticulture industry urging them to think outside the box and explore means of leveraging on agriculture to generate more foreign currency.

Government has already started land audit to access land usage. The Zimbabwe Land Commission embarked on a national land audit from the 22nd of October to the 24th of November to establish a full account of all agricultural land.

The land audit programme follows a pilot project completed recently. The program will be guided by specific objectives that are to collect and analyse land allocation data, identify multiple ownership and d-ouble allocation, and land use among other things.
