Zim set to be wheat exporter by year end

President Mnangagwa was speaking at the official launch of the Zimbabwe Economic Development Conference (ZEDCON) held this morning in the resort town of Victoria Falls.

He also said the country would continue to consolidate food and nutrition security.

“All along, this country was food insecure. We were importing food, wheat and maize to feed the country. Nothing of that sort has happened under the Second Republic. We must eat what we kill.

“With the model of agriculture that we have introduced in the country; first we targeted to make sure we have food security at the household level through the Pfumvudza/Intwasa concept. We are now in our sixth year, no importation of any food.

“As a matter of fact, now we have become food secure and from this year we shall become wheat exporters.”
