Government has stepped up efforts to improve access to health care in rural communities through the upgrading of a clinic in Ward 26, Mutasa District, located in Manicaland Province.
The project includes the renovation of accommodation for health personnel and the construction of a maternity ward aimed at strengthening maternal health care.
In a recent interview with this publication, health practitioner in Mutasa District, Prisca Nhamburo said the developments were already having a positive impact on people’s lives.
“A house for the resident nurse has already been renovated, making it easier for the health worker to stay within the community and attend to patients without delay. Construction work on a maternity ward is underway and is expected to ease the burden on expecting mothers who previously had to travel long distances to deliver their babies at larger facilities,” she said.
She added that the clinic, once fully upgraded, will serve about 13 surrounding villages, a development expected to significantly ease pressure on distant health centres and improve response times during medical emergencies.
Speaking on the same development, ManicalandProvince’s Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Misheck Mugadza, said Government remains committed to ensuring that every citizen benefits from development.
“This development is part of our broader vision to provide equitable health care across all provinces in line with Vision 2030. We are ensuring that even the most remote wards benefit from the national development agenda,” he said.
He applauded local leadership and residents for their unity of purpose in working with Government to bring lasting change.
“I want to commend the local leadership and residents for their unity of purpose. It is through such collaboration with Government that we are able to deliver lasting change in our communities,” he said.
Community members have also expressed gratitude for the ongoing work.
Tendai Rutanhira, a resident of Ward 26, said the project would improve lives across the area.
“We are seeing change on the ground, and we appreciate that Government is prioritising rural areas,” he said.
The initiative aligns with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, which prioritises access to quality health care for all Zimbabweans regardless of location.
The upgrades also demonstrate the effectiveness of Government’s devolution programme, which continues to channel resources directly to communities.
