A Norwegian energy company is set to establish a massive coal bed methane gas plant with a potential to produce 1000MW and fertilisers.

This was said by President Emmerson Mnangagwa shortly after meeting Norwegian Prime Minister Ms Erna Solberg on the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Briefing a Zimbabwean journalist after the meeting, President Mnangagwa said, “relations between Zimbabwe and Norway are excellent. We were discussing issues of investment. I am sure you are aware that there is a company from Norway which is coming to invest in Zimbabwe in energy, coalbed, methane gas, so that we have electricity about 1000MW and also fertiliser will be produced.”

He added: “As you go underground you get to Methane gas there is a lot of water. They are also planning to use that water and put it in dams. So we are very happy with that.”

President Mnangagwa went on to highlight the urgent need for the removal of sanctions that he said were a violation of human rights.

“The need for removing sanctions is yesterday and our economy is suffering as a result of those sanctions. To us it is a violation of human rights because there is no need for the imposition of those sanctions. They should be lifted yesterday,” he said.

Prime Minister Solberg highlighted that she had a very good discussion with President Mnangagwa and that said she hoped for success in the future.

She said Zimbabweans had a beautiful country.
