Local retailers say they have recorded bumper sales as shoppers jostle to buy groceries and wares for the festive season, the Harare Post can reveal.

A snap survey in Harare’s central business district revealed that people were busy making their last-minute shopping ahead of Christmas Day, this Wednesday.

Terrence Kupenza, manager at one of OK Zimbabwe’s CBD stores, said that the last two days recorded high sales owing to last minute shopping by customers.

“We have been recording very high sales since weekend. I am sure the festive mood is slowly gripping customers aided by the fact that other shops closed down for the public holiday (Unit Day) which was on this Monday,” he said.

Many shoppers clogged the streets of Harare, moving in and out of shops picking up groceries and clothing items.

Jet Stores sales representative also confirmed the hyper activity as shoppers jostle to make the festive season memorable for their loved ones.

“The Christmas festive mood has surely gripped the nation judging from the crowds which are thronging the store for last minute shopping ahead of Christmas tomorrow.  Business had generally picked up these past two weeks with high sales recorded mainly in the kids section,” she said.
