The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development has called for applications from small and micro agriculture enterprises (SMEs) for a grant programme aimed at boosting the sector’s growth, innovation and sustainability.

In a statement yesterday, the Ministry said the Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Global Farmers Association, is seeking to support individuals, agribusinesses, cooperatives, groups, and companies involved in various agricultural activities, including farming, agro-processing, input supply, exporting, and domestic market trading.

"Zimbabwe is pleased to announce a call for grant applications to support Agriculture Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs) across our nation. This initiative aims to foster impactful growth and innovation within the agricultural sector. This is a significant opportunity for businesses and individuals involved in various aspects of agriculture, including farming, input supply, exporting, agro-processing, supplying, and trading," the Ministry said.

Priority will be given to projects that promote sustainable agriculture, employment creation, food security, innovation, and export growth.

The Ministry said the grant programme was a crucial part of Government’s efforts to drive economic development through agricultural transformation.

"We are seeking applications from those who can demonstrate the potential to make a significant positive impact on Zimbabwe's agricultural landscape. Projects that promote developments in areas, such as sustainable agriculture, employment creation, innovation, food security, and export growth are particularly encouraged," it said.

Applications are being processed through an online platform, and interested parties are required to complete all fields accurately before submission.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 5, 2025.

Successful applicants identified by the department will be referred to the Global Farmers Association for the disbursement of funds.

The Ministry said investment in agriculture was critical for the future of the country.

"We believe that investing in agriculture is investing in the future of our country, Zimbabwe."
