United Nations agencies, together with international development partners, officially handed over 13 vehicles to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) yesterday.

The donation is expected to enhance emergency response, healthcare delivery, and outreach services, especially for children and underserved communities.

The handover ceremony, held in Harare, was attended by representatives from UNICEF Zimbabwe, UN Zimbabwe, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Humanitarian Relief Foundation Zimbabwe (HRF) and diplomatic missions, including the European Union Delegation to Zimbabwe, the Irish Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa and the UK Embassy in Harare.

Acting UNICEF Zimbabwe Representative Adam Valenta officially presented the vehicle keys to MoHCC Permanent Secretary Dr. Aspect Maunganidze.

“Vehicles ensure the continuity of essential services for children. This is more than just a logistical investment; it’s a lifeline for communities where access to health services can mean the difference between life and death,” said Valenta.

Dr. Maunganidze welcomed the donation, emphasising its importance to frontline service delivery.

“These vehicles mark a major step in strengthening healthcare, emergency response, and outreach. We thank HRF Zimbabwe donors and our development partners for their unwavering support,” he said.

He further committed the ministry to responsible use of the vehicles, “We pledge to use and maintain them diligently to serve our communities effectively.”

This collaborative effort reflects growing international support for Zimbabwe’s health sector, particularly in line with efforts to achieve universal health coverage and improve outcomes for children and mothers.

The 13 vehicles will be deployed across various provinces to support immunisation drives, emergency medical responses, and mobile health outreach services.

The initiative highlights the crucial role of coordinated international assistance in bolstering Zimbabwe's healthcare delivery systems and guaranteeing the inclusion of all communities.
