A high-ranking source within the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) aligned to Nelson Chamisa has revealed a shocking plot by some party members to stage-manage abductions and attacks to discredit the government and state security agents.
According to the insider, the scheme is part of a broader strategy to paint Zimbabwe’s authorities as oppressive ahead of potential bi-elections.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, claimed that a series of alleged abductions of CCC members are being planned to attract international sympathy and tarnish the State’s reputation.
“There is a well-coordinated plan to fake abductions and violent attacks on CCC officials, then blame it on the Government. The recent report about former Chitungwiza deputy mayor Rangarirai Mutingwende’s home being bombed is false. The claim that his daughter, Jerita Mutingwende, narrowly escaped abduction is also a lie. These stories are manufactured to create a false narrative,” the source said.
The source further disclosed that deep divisions within the CCC are undermining its ability to mount a credible challenge against the ruling ZANU PF Party.
Factional battles, particularly over party strategy, have reportedly intensified, raising concerns about the opposition’s cohesion.
“The party is tearing itself apart from the inside. Thereis so much infighting that it may be impossible to present a united front against ZANU PF. Some members are more focused on personal agendas than on winning future elections,” the source said.
Political analysts suggest that the alleged plot, if true, could backfire on the CCC by eroding public trust.
“Staging incidents for political gain is dangerous and could alienate supporters who expect integrity from their leaders,” said analyst, Calvin Chitsunge.
