Chamisa’s clean-up campaign, a gimmick

MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa together with MDC Alliance supporters today, conducted a clean-up campaign in Glenview following the cholera outbreak which broke out weeks back.

Despite Government’s efforts, working in collaboration with Harare City Council and other stakeholders in the fight against the spread of cholera discouraging people from congregating, Chamisa went on to have people congregate in the name of a clean-up campaign.

MDC Alliance supporters came together at Glenview 3 Shopping Centre in the name of cleaning up the area. However, according to a Glen view residents who spoke to Harare Post Chamisa was turning their plight into a political gimmick.

“Ever since he lost the presidential race, Chamisa feels he is no longer being recognised and does not want to be drowned that is why he has gone out to the streets of Glenview,” said Tapiwa Gomo, a Glen View resident.

Residents highlighted that Chamisa was wasting his time and that of his supporters and the assembly only served to fuel the cholera spread.

“I don’t know why he is wasting people’s time in this scorching heat doing Councils’ job. Council has started cleaning up, so I wonder what he was cleaning. Atombovapa magloves, nezvekuvharisa mhino nemuromo here vanhu vese ivavo. Chamisa is now fuelling cholera making people congregate in one place of which that is being discouraged.Vangani vamhorosana vakadya vasinakugeza maoko ipapo,” he said.

Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, July Moyo said Government together with Harare City Council has scaled up their rapid response in curbing the spread of cholera in the Harare Metropolitan Province which has witnessed the reduction of new infections.
