President Emmerson Mnangagwa has assured Zimbabweans that no one will starve in the country as Government has enough strategic maize reserves to cater for its citizens for the next two years.

President Mnangagwa was addressing thousands of party supporters at the first of a series of national ‘Thank You’ rallies at Murombedzi Stadium in Mashonaland West, promising that his Government would not allow anyone to go hungry.

“I promised the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Mashonaland West, Mary Mliswa that we have enough in strategic maize reserves to cater for everyone and shall be distributed to the people.

“MPs, councillors, Chairpersons ensure that everyone is fed and does not go hungry,” he added.

President Mnangagwa attributed the grain in the reserves to the Command Agriculture initiative which is now in its third year running.

President Mnangagwa also promised those subscribed with Command Agriculture that if they have met their end of the bargain, they will have their contracts renewed.

“We also have the Presidential Input Scheme to compliment the Command Agriculture and is set to benefit everyone irrespective of their political affiliation,” he said.

President Mnangagwa encouraged those responsible for the distribution of the maize and the Command Agriculture and Presidential Input Scheme to desist from engaging in corruption and be fair in distribution.
