MDC legislators’ behaviour condemned

By Bernard Mtambudzi

The behaviour displayed by MDC legislators in Parliament yesterday has been widely condemned by people from across the political divide.

Speaker of Parliament, Advocate Jacob Mudenda had asked members of opposition to leave the chamber, accusing them of disrespecting Head of State and Government, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The MDC members of Parliament had refused to stand up for the President as he was getting in as per tradition.

The speaker was left with no option but ask the Sergeant of Arms, who then asked the Zimbabwe Republic Police to eject them from the chamber.

House of Assembly for Norton, Themba Mliswa twitted on his page, “Today’s conduct by MDC-A is deplorable, it’s high time they decided whether they are in or out being hypocritical. It’s unfair to the electorate who expects their representation. They missed debating on State of the Nation Address (SONA) and now the budget then tomorrow will cry foul,” said Mliswa.

This is not the first time the MDC legislators have shown contempt for President Mnangagwa. They walked out on him during his maiden SONA.

The opposition members refused to stand as per usual tradition to honor the President as the procession got into the Parliament building.

MDC-T spokesperson Ms Linda Masarira condemned the behaviour saying “it’s unbecoming and should be condemned in the strongest terms.”
